Logaholic Installation Instructions

When you are using Logaholic live, click here to go to installation manual Logaholic live.
When you wish to install Logaholic on a Windows Work Station, please click here.

1: COPY FILES

NOTE: Install procedures of Logaholic "SHE" and "SPE" are the same.
Copy the contents of the downloaded zip file to a new sub directory in your web root.
I.e. If you have a website: "www.example.com" copy the files to "www.example.com/logaholic/"

2: SET FILE PERMISSIONS

Set File Permissions



-> NOTE: Skip this step on Windows SERVER or DESKTOP.

Change the file permissions, allow your webserver to write to the sub directories.
Write access/permission to the "files" folder, in the Logaholic directory is necessary.
In most FTP clients you can set "write" access/permission. In the Ftp client; select "Properties" for the 'files' folder and try to change the rights to "Write" for everyone. Changing File Attributes...





3: RUN SETUP WIZARD

Point your browser to:
http://www.your_domain_name.com/logaholic/install.php and follow the instructions.
http://localhost/logaholic/install.php and follow the instructions, when installing on a Windows Work Station.

Step 1: Check file permissions

The 1st screeen, welcomes you to Logaholic Web Analytics Install procedure, Step 1.

OK, files directory is writable, should appear when above instructions are followed correctly. Click "Continue"

Step 2: Get Logaholic License

The 2nd screen; You will be asked to "Get license" by filling in your first name and primary email adress; confirm with the "Get license" button.

If you've already purchased Logaholic, please use the same email address as in your order.
If you are not a customer yet, please use your primary email account and this will create your trial license.

The 3rd screen will notify, that a license key has been created. Click "Continue"

Note that the Logaholic license will be tied in to your domain or IP adress of your server, any changes can only be made with the use of your original email adress, that was used during the purchase of Logaholic.(I.e installing on a other server, moving to a different domain).

The 4th screen will notify: License received + registration details. Click "Continue"

Step 3: Create / Connect to Database

The 5th screen: Will present a form for submitting your database details:

Database server: When the Database is on the same machine as where you have installed Logaholic; use localhost or 127.0.0.1 as the address of your Database. When the MySql database is on a different machine submit the exact location for Database Server:, this can be an ip address or a qualified domain name.
When you are using Wampserver or Xamp, the default Database Username is: root and no Database Password.
When you have completed the form; click "Continue".

The 5th screen will confirm:

1. Ok, local storage of the database configuration according your submitted details,
2. Ok, Successful connection to the Database.
3. Ok, Database created or found.
Click "Continue".

The 6th screen: will ask you to download MaxMind's GeoLiteCity database; Geolitecity.dat.

Logaholic uses the GeoLiteCity database provided by Maxmind.com. This enables Logaholic to determine the geographic location of your visitors, down to the city level. The screen will indicate to which location the file Geolitecity.dat should be copied to ..../logaholic/components/geoip.
Click "Continue".

The 7th screen: Done!

Click "Go To Profiles" to configure your profiles.

4: ADD PASSWORD PROTECTION

NOTE: Logaholic SPE users should use the built in user authentication system.

To prevent others from accessing your logaholic reports,

On Linux and/or Windows Desktop PC (Wampserver, Xamp or similar web server environment).

The best way to do this is to use the .htaccess and .htpassword authentification provided by Apache.

On Windows IIS

If you are using Microsoft Internet Information Server, you can use Basic Directory Authentication.

Hosted Solution

In case your Logaholic is installed on a hosted solution which is using any of the following Web Site Managers, click your manager for information on directory security;
cPanel, Plesk, DirectAdmin are the main Web Panel providers,
do you not recognize your Web Manager, please contact your ISP for more information.

NOTE: Should you decide to not password protect your logaholic directory, we strongly advise to delete "install.php" from the Logaholic directory, once you have Logaholic up and running.
