Funnel Analysis
This report allows you to define and analyze the stages a visitor goes through from entry to sale. It shows you how many people entered your site at a certain page and how the population progressed from there. The aim is to give an idea at which 'stages' your visitors are leaving, so you can optimize those steps in your (sales) funnel.
Creating a new funnel report
When you click on "Create a new funnel report" you will see a few empty fields where you would need to enter some data. Basically in order to set up a funnel report you would need to specify for what part of your site visitors should the funnel report be made. Say, for instance, you want to know what part of all visitors to your site proceeded to download the software you're selling. In the Pages field you will type "Any". By clicking on the plus buttons you can add another page, for instance, if you are interested in the visitors coming only from Google, you would then insert the Google search URL in the second field (or just start with it from the beginning). Subsequently you would add more parameters (pages) to your funnel until you finish with your target page (the URL that indicates you have sold something (or whatever you may be measuring.
Dot not forget to label each page you add as in the end this will indicate what exactly it is that you are measuring (in the case of a page for sign up for a newsletter, for instance, the label could be "Interest level").
An important function of the funnel analysis is that it provides you with measurable results in terms of money spent and earned. This shouldn't be surprising, as the report is called Sales funnel. So when you set up the funnel, you can add a value to each paramater. For instance, if you are advertising onother sites, every visit to your landing page will cost you money. In the funnel report you can type in - $0.50 ( for instance)against the URL of the landing page. At the bottom, against your target page, depending on what you are selling, you would put the price of each item. (+ $100)
